Our History
The Del Lago Women’s Golf Association (DLWGA) unites a group of interesting and talented women dedicated to playing the game of golf. Historically, a small group of women would gather at Del Lago on a Thursday to play golf for fun. However, after thoughtful consideration for the game, the ladies decided that to improve, more structure was needed which would involve establishing weekly tournaments, obtaining a handicap, and playing by the rules.
In 20l4, Julie Katz began the journey of forming a women’s golf association at Del Lago. Julie consulted other women’s golf leagues and asked experts for help in structuring the DLWGA. Following the guidelines provided by the Arizona Golf Association (AGA), a board was formed and Julie was elected the first president of the DLWGA. Other board members included Andrea Barnes, Deborah Kohler, Jean Petersen, Suzanne Sargent, and Sue English.
In 2017, Julie was awarded ‘Representative of the Year’ by the Arizona Women’s Golf Association (AWGA) for her achievement in establishing the DLWGA.
We continue to be a welcoming and friendly group of golfing women at Del Lago who enjoy playing weekly tournaments while striving to improve our golfing skills.
